  • Do You Want Full-world Level Scaling
  • At BlizzCon this year, we finally got something a lot of players have been asking for: zone scaling when leveling in older expansions. Granted, it’s not full-blown, uncapped scaling for every single level, but it’s a good start. If you’re leveling a tank or healer you probably never run into the leveling slog of some areas or out-leveling a zone before you can finish the questlines. Dungeon queues come quick with a lot of XP but for DPS players who don’t get instant queues, certain spots can be frustrating. I’m sure a lot of us remember that dead spot around level 56 where you just needed to get to 58 to go to the much more lucrative and XP-filled Hellfire Peninsula. Or that time between 40 and 60 when it seems like the only dungeon in the whole game is Blackrock Depths.

Some people want to take it further, extending scaling to the whole game so that every zone stays relevant. While scaling is nice when you’re leveling, you still want the feeling of being powerful when you go back to older content. I like that I can run through Elwynn Forest and not worry about a thing because I finished that content many years and 100 levels ago. It would be extra frustrating to visit the zone and find that wolves and kobolds are just as dangerous as the Burning Legion’s armies on Argus.

It appears Blizzard is going with the middle path and giving scaling and level caps to leveling areas so that we can have flexibility on our way to 110 and above, while still feeling a sense of power when we go back to older content. Is the level scaling everything you wanted or do you want it to be more?
